Week Eight! Nov 13th - 19th

How would you like to add 9 productive years to your life?

Exercise like your life depends on it (cause it does). And do strength and flexibility training too. Who says? The Real Age Institute (see www.realage.com). You can complete an online quiz on their site which will tell you your real statistical age. Consistent intense exercise, like the kind being done by our Challenge team, has an impressive effect on your lifespan.

How about another 5 years?

Use the Magic 66 number. Have a flexible heart? Do energetic exercise for 2 minutes and count your heart rate. Then stop. Wait two minutes and count again. A difference of 66 will add 5 years to your life span.

How about another 3 years?

Eat fruits and vegetables like crazy. It's proven statistically.

How about another year?

This one is even easier. Don't use your cell phone while driving. Tests have proven that people using their cell phones while driving do a worse job then people who have been drinking.

Comments:
For those of you who think the Challenge has settled into a kind of a lull - I challenge you to up the ante. I personally have never enjoyed this process more. Instead of dragging myself into the basement to squeeze in a 30 minute bike ride, I head to the gym, spend at least an hour and really work off the stress! I have to thank Wally for discovering this amazing resource caused the Wellness Centre. Our whole family are now members and we have discovered a new common interest.

PRIZE OFFER!
I try to get on the stepper machine every chance I get at the Wellness (there are 5 that I know of). Since I need to compete with myself to keep interested (some form of A.D.D. I guess) I have been trying to do as many floors as possible in 20 minutes. I've hit a kind of wall at 116. So here is my offer - I will give anyone who can do more floors than me in 20 minutes before this Challenge ends - a $20 Gift Certificate to Tim Hortons. Post your best and may the best challenger win.

Week Eight
Monday - 70 Minutes of running, resistance, crunches, stepper and eliptical. THEN 30 minutes of a friendly game of family badminton.
Wednesday - 75 Min as above at Wellness - no badminton though.
Saturday - 78 Min as above
Sunday - 4 hours of working out with wood - removed half of basement contents, built shelving system in garage, hauled downstairs etc. I found muscles that have escaped the attention of the very well equipped Wellness Centre. First time I've been sore in a while.

Wally's Prize Question - Don't want to discourage competition here - I was all excited that someone was going to take me on - I'm starting to get bored of the stepper experience.

So here is what I will do - tonite I will go for the gusto and post my best result (I have a goal now). The first person who beats that number before the end of this challenge gets the prize.

Since I messed up on the Challenge last week I decided to go a little overboard this time around:
Monday – 1 hour Bosu Combo class, 40 min elliptical/bike = 140 mins cardio
Friday – 50 cardio (elip/bike/row)
Saturday - 50 cardio (elip/bike) plus: 1 hr walk downtown
Sunday – G-Force and Pump Fix classes = 2 hours straight (1 hr cardio, 1 hr strength training)
AND…I've never been on the stepper before but I'm definitely intrigued by Uncle Russ' challenge…I'll let you know if I'm up for it after my first attempt with the machine! I've witnessed other peoples first attempts and they looked pretty ridiculous!
